Manchester United will hold a vote on who their next captain will - and it reportedly won’t be Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Maguire.
David de Gea is the favourite to take over from the defender, according to The Sun. It is thought that Erik ten Hag has proclaimed that he would be happy for the dressing room to decide on their new captain together.
It is stressed that the replacement of Maguire as skipper isn’t a ‘rebellion’ against the defender. It’s more a backing of a player who commands a great deal of respect at the club.
It was former Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who opted to name Maguire as the club’s new captain despite the player only having been with the side for six months at the time.The England defender is thoroughly proud of having the armband but some feel that such a responsibility may have impacted his form.
