Manchester United ended up paying out £15million after sacking Ralf Rangnick at the end of last season - just six months after appointing him as interim coach.
The German coach was brought in to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season as a safe pair of hands until the summer where a permanent option would be picked.
He had been parachuted in from Lokomotiv Moscow, where he had been in as manager of sports and development. Rangnick signed a contract that would see him join United in a consultancy role after the season had finished but the arrival of Erik ten Hag as manager saw the former RB Leipzig boss sacked. The jaw-dropping total capped off a shoddy campaign for the Red Devils, who finished sixth in the Premier League. In 24 matches in charge of United, Rangnick oversaw just 10 wins and his side conceded 33 times, including seven losses and seven draws.
