Manchester United reportedly rejected the opportunity to sign Edinson Cavani seven years ago - after then boss David Moyes made three separate scouting trips to watch the Uruguayan striker.
Cavani joined United on a free transfer on deadline day having left Paris Saint-Germain following the expiry of his contract in the French capital.
The 33-year-old will bid to have a similar impact to former PSG teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic who had a successful spell at Old Trafford at the twilight of his career.
But Cavani could have joined the Red Devils much earlier. According to The Athletic, Ed Woodward was keen on making Cavani a marquee signing in the summer of 2013 after Sir Alex Ferguson won the last of his Premier League titles and retired.
