Bruno Fernandes

Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.

In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Manchester United will need to pay Sporting Lisbon £4.2million if Bruno Fernandes wins the PFA Player of the Year award. Fernandes is the even-money favourite to scoop the prestigious accolade after a phenomenal season for the Red Devils.

The Portuguese No.10 has plundered 22 goals and contributed 12 assists in all competitions, while no player has registered more than his 25 goals involvements in the Premier League.

Fernandes has ascended to talismanic status at Old Trafford since joining from Sporting for an initial £46.6million in January 2020.

As part of the deal to prise him from Portugal, United also agreed to a number of add-ons worth many millions each. And The Times reports Sporting will be entitled to another €5million (4.2m)
