Manchester United's search for a director of football has taken a twist, with long-term target Luis Campos reportedly asking to leave Lille.
Campos is widely regarded as one of the most effective transfer chiefs in European football and could be a free agent soon after falling out with the French club over their summer business.
The Portuguese chief worked for Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid and the manager even attempted to lure him to Manchester United during his spell at Old Trafford.
However chief executive Ed Woodward was reluctant at the time - and the Premier League giants remain in the hunt for a director football.
