Police, paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene of the smash at the junctions of Fairfield Street and Pin Mill Brow, which leads onto and off the busy flyover, at around 4.45pm yesterday (Thursday).

A car and motorbike collided, a spokesperson for the fire service said. A man in his 50s was taken to hospital from the scene.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said he suffered 'multiple serious injuries'. Pictures taken at the scene showed a heavy emergency services presence after the crash.
