The Wythenshawe youngster, who turned 19 last month, put pen to paper on a long-term contract less than 12 months ago when he signed on until 2024 but the club have moved to extend that by a further two years after an impressive season working with Pep Guardiola.

Having made his debut in September, starting alongside Kevin De Bruyne in a Carabao Cup tie at Burnley, Palmer also featured in the Champions League at Marseille before spending the rest of his playing campaign starring in the Premier League 2 as the Under-23s
