Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo.Newcastle Crown Court heard that Ross Flynn attacked the woman, who was his partner at the time, after a night out.The couple had been chatting and watching a football video in June last year when Flynn suddenly asked her whether she was more attracted to the Portuguese international or her former boyfriend, who died some time ago. When the woman, whose name is not being released on legal grounds, said that if anything she preferred her ex.

Flynn, 31, then punched her in the face. The court was told that the victim then retreated to the bedroom and was sitting on the bed when Flynn struck her again.Prosecutor Omar Ahmad said that as the victim was sitting on the bed: "She felt three or four extremely hard punches to the back of the head causing immediate pain."The defendant said 'Shut the f*** up and get to sleep or you know what will happen'."The woman later contacted the police.

She told officers: "He asked who is better looking, Cristiano Ronaldo or your ex."My ex before him [died by] suicide and I said I don't find Cristiano Ronaldo attractive, so I said my ex… [and] he started hitting me."She tearfully told police: ”He went how dare you say your ex is better looking than Cristiano Ronaldo – that means I am not better looking than your ex.She tried to explain to Flynn that Ronaldo “wasn’t her type” but he continued with the assault.Flynn was arrested and later released on bail but attacked the victim again less than two months later.

He has since been branded a "very high risk" to any future partners, reports the Sunderland Echo. The court heard of numerous further incidents of violence between Flynn and his ex-partner.
