Lanarkshire store. The announcement ended years of speculation that 'St Michael' would eventually enter Hamilton 's shopping paradise, as it was then known, alongside Woolworths.

The Regent Way shopping centre store was part of the town's £2m shopping precinct which was built throughout the 60s by Edinburgh company Argyle Securities Ltd - whose director told the Hamilton Advertiser at the time that it "would be one of Marks and Spencer's biggest provincial shops".
