Lockdown tiers could be 'unjustified' by December 2 as cases are falling, says scientist

lockdown tier system being announced today could be outdated by December 2 as cases are already plummeting, one scientist has claimed.

People will today find out which tier their area is to fall under in the tougher three tiers system as the month-long nationwide lockdown comes to an end next week.

However, the tier system is "unjustified", says Professor Carl Heneghan, an epidemiologist and expert in evidence-based medicine at the University of Oxford.

It comes as 9,854 new infections were recorded on Tuesday, half the number of coronavirus cases reported last week at 18,626.
