Naman Ramachandran For the first time in its 37-year history, the SXSW festival in Austin will host South Asian House, an initiative to celebrate South Asians from India, Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Maldives as well as accomplished members of the diaspora. The initiative, scheduled for the first weekend of SXSW on March 11 and 12, 2023, will feature programming around film and television, dance and music, technology, business, fashion, comedy and climate change from a South Asian world view across plenaries, sessions, panel discussions, workshops, art exhibits, book launches and music concerts. It will take place in the 4th Street neighborhood of downtown Austin, near the Austin Convention Center event headquarters.

Tarantino will kick off his promo jaunt in Los Angeles, then head to San Francisco, Portland and Austin before concluding at The Town Hall in New York City. In “Cinema Speculation,” the “Pulp Fiction” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” director finally does what fans have anticipated throughout his 30-year long career: write about and analyze the films that shaped him, from his early childhood to his adulthood. As one of the most famous movie-lovers of all time, Tarantino packs in film criticism, film theory, reporting and personal history while centering on key movies made throughout the 1970s. The book will be published by Harper Collins and is currently available for pre-order on Amazon. The council member who represents the northwest Austin district where a golf course hosted a racy tournament with an adult entertainment club this week says that she has fielded calls from concerned constituents about the incident.  The Vista Ridge High School golf team tried to practice at Avery Ridge Golf Club on Monday, but the coach sent the kids home after they encountered the adult entertainment club.  "I started receiving complaints from constituents about what had happened," Austin City Council Member Mackenzie Kelly, who represents district 6, told Fox News Digital on Thursday. "I don't believe that any student should be exposed to that type of behavior that was happening out at the golf club that day.

Taylor Swift is set to begin at the University of Texas (UTA) in Austin.The new course, which begins this autumn and is titled The Taylor Swift Songbook, will see her read alongside the likes of Chaucer, Shakespeare, Keats and Sylvia Plath.Preliminary texts for the course include her 2020 lockdown albums ‘Folklore’ and ‘Evermore’, 2019’s ‘Lover’ and the new ‘Taylor’s Version’ reissue of ‘Red’.According to a description on the UTA website, the course will use “the songwriting of pop music icon Taylor Swift to introduce literary critical reading and research methods-basic skills for work in English literature and other humanities disciplines.It adds: “Focusing on Swift’s music and the cultural contexts in which it and her career are situated, we’ll consider frameworks for understanding her work, such as poetic form, style, and history among various matters and theoretical issues important to contextualisation as we practice close and in-depth reading, evaluating secondary sources, and building strong arguments.”Earlier this year, New York University’s Clive Davis Institute launched a new course on Swift. The course began at the Davis Institute, which is part of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, on January 26 ran through to March 9.In May, Swift then delivered a commencement address for New York University’s class of 2022.
