Serj Tankian announces memoir, ‘Down with the System’

System of a Down frontman Serj Tankian has announced his new memoir Down with the System, set to be released next year.Tankian revealed the memoir with a post on his social media, writing, “Boom! – I wrote a new book. I had a blast working on this accidentally hatched philosophical memoir as it’s given me the unique opportunity to deep dive into my family history, my own motivations from a young age and lessons I didn’t know I had learned.”The memoir is set to be released on May 14 next year via Hachette Books, with the publisher’s website promising that Tankian’s memoir will be “far more than just a rock ‘n’ roll fable”.Describing the tome as “an immigrant’s tale, it’s an activist’s awakening, and it’s a spiritual journey from darkness toward light”.

System Of A Down frontman Serj Tankian has called for Imagine Dragons to cancel their upcoming concert in Baku, Azerbaijan this September.Last night (August 16), Tankian took to social media to publicly urge Imagine Dragons to call off their Baku concert after he had sent them a private letter but received no response.In his post, the System Of A Down frontman pointed out how “Azerbaijan’s petro-oligarchic dictatorial regime was starving 120k people in Nagorno-Karabagh which is now being called a Genocide by the former prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.”Per Tankian’s post, he had sent a “kind letter” to the band through representatives “urging them to reconsider” the show. His post also includes a change.org petition.Tankian wrote: “As the humanitarian crisis worsens in Nagorno-Karabagh with starvation already being recorded I am forced to publicize this letter and their disregard for this humanitarian catastrophe.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Forty-nine films will compete for the Heart of Sarajevo awards at the 29th Sarajevo Film Festival, which runs in Bosnia and Herzegovina from Aug. 11 to 18. The Feature Film Competition will present 11 titles, with two world premieres, one international and five regional premieres. World premieres include “Europa” from Austrian-Iranian filmmaker Sudabeh Mortezai, whose credits include 2018 Venice Days entry “Joy,” the Best Film winner at London Film Festival, and “Macondo,” which competed for the Golden Bear at Berlin Film Festival in 2014. The other world premiere is “Medium,” from Greek director Christina Ioakeimidi, whose debut feature was “Harisma” in 2010.
