Having coasted to a third Premier League title in four seasons, those key figures responsible for deals at the Etihad Stadium broke the nine-figure barrier to lure in Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
They did, however, miss out in their follow-up pursuit for England captain Harry Kane. It was initially thought that a replacement for Sergio Aguero - now at Barcelona - was top of the agenda for City.
But having been priced out of a move for Kane with Tottenham wanting £120million-plus, they held firm and opted against pursuing alternative options in the short term.
