Late Late Show viewers were inspired by the bravery of 17-year-old Claudia Scanlon on Friday evening. The young woman was joined by her mum Liz on the show to talk about life with epidermolysis bullosa (EB), a rare genetic condition that affects 1 in 18,000 babies born in Ireland.
The extremely painful skin condition, commonly known as ‘butterfly skin,’ causes the layers of the skin and internal linings to blister and wound at even the slightest touch.
For Claudia, who has been living with her condition her entire life, a new challenge has arisen as her hands have now fused and contracted which limits her independence further.
