Formula One bosses are reportedly closing in on a deal that would see the sport return to Las Vegas.Sin City is no stranger to F1, having hosted two races at the Caesars Palace Grand Prix Circuit in 1981 and 1982.But after disappointing crowds on both visits to Nevada, racing didn't return in 1983 and hasn't been back since.
However, that could be about to change as F1 chiefs look to capitalise on the sport's boom in America. F1 has enjoyed a huge popularity boost stateside thanks to the success of Netflix's Drive to Survive series.
Next season there will be two US-based races on the calendar at a new track in Miami and again in Texas. And two could become three if Las Vegas is added to the roster in 2023, as per a report in The Sun.
F1's American owners, Liberty Media, have been trying to make inroads into their home market ever since buying the sport in 2017.The success of Drive to Survive has helped their cause. So too has Lewis Hamilton's duel with Max Verstappen, which lasted the entirety of last season.
