Lanarkshire schools battle it out in public speaking competition

The fourth public speaking competition for schools in Lanarkshire, organised by the Lanarkshire Lieutenancy took place last week.Talented youngsters from Calderside Academy, Blantyre, Clyde Valley High School, Wishaw, Cumbernauld Academy and Hamilton Grammar School, all took part in the competition which was held at Motherwell Concert Hall on May 19.Three pupils from each team spoke on the subject of "Citizenship in our schools and Community" and then answered questions posed by two pupils from another team.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

GP.The standards achieved by all schools taking part were again exceptional focussing on the importance of citizenship and the benefits of immigration to the country.Winners of the trophy, presented by Lord Lieutenant Lady Haughey CBE were the Cumbernauld Academy team made of Daniel Inverarity, Jack Ganner, Alexis Qasim, Jack Quigley and Rhys Byrne.One of the teachers, speaking from one of the participating schools told Lanarkshire Live: "I can vouch that our students, both participants and supporters, learned so much about citizenship
