Keith Olsen, Prolific ’70s and ’80s Rock Producer, Dead at 74

Keith Olsen, a producer who worked on a number of hit rock records in the 1970s and ’80s, died on Monday of cardiac arrest, The New York Times reports.

He was 74. After playing in bands in the ’60s, he pivoted to production and was mentored by Curt Boettcher and Brian Wilson.

Olsen worked as a producer on Buckingham Nicks and helped introduce their music to Mick Fleetwood. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks then joined Fleetwood Mac, and Olsen produced the band’s self-titled 1975 album (which features “Rhiannon,” “Say You Love Me” and “Landslide”).

Olsen’s other credits include the Grateful Dead’s Terrapin Station, Santana’s Marathon, Pat Benatar’s “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” Rick Springfield’s “Jessie’s Girl,” Whitesnake’s “Here I Go
