Justin Bieber could take months to recover from a condition that has left the right-hand side of his face paralysed - and it could leave him with long-lasting medical problems.
Bieber, 28, has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, leaving him unable to blink, smile or move a nostril on one side. The rare syndrome has already led him to cancel some dates on his world tour.The condition occurs when the virus that causes chickenpox in children and shingles in adults - which remains in cells for years - is re-activated and inflames the facial nerves.
Stress, a weakened immune system and other medical issues were all signalled as a possible cause.Dr Nina Lu, a facial expert at the University of Washington School of Medicine, said that it could take months for the singer to recover.
However, she added that the paralysis was unlikely to be permanent - with about seven in 10 patients normally making a full recovery.Lu said: "Recovery times for this illness can vary.
