The 46-year-old actor, who is a Golden Globe nominee for his work in the 2016 movie Loving, was seen shredding the waves while surfing that afternoon. Joel has been in Australia for most of the year amid the pandemic.
He grew up in the country and went to college in Sydney. It was announced earlier this month that Joel will be starring in the upcoming immigrant drama The Brutalist alongside Marion Cotillard, Mark Rylance, Sebastian Stan, Vanessa Kirby, Stacy Martin, Raffey Cassidy, and Alessandra Nivola.
