Jim McLean has died aged 83. The iconic former Tannadice boss passed away on Boxing Day, it has been announced. Larkhall-born McLean, also a former columnist, had been living with dementia and was residing in a Dundee care home during his final days.
A titan of Scottish football, McLean managed Dundee United for 22 years from 1971 to 1993, becoming the most successful manager in the club's history.
He spearheaded a golden era of success in the 1980s, winning two League Cups in 1980 and 1981 before a league title followed in 1983.Winning the league catapulted United into the European Cup where they reached the semi-final before losing out to Roma in controversial circumstances.
