Jamie Oliver has dropped the term ‘Kaffir lime leaves’ in his recipes after concerns were raised about the word which has historically been used as a racial slur in South Africa.

The TV chef, 46, has now removed the term ‘Kaffir lime leaves’ from his online recipes and will now simply use ‘lime leaves’ going forward.

The ingredient comes from South-East Asia and is frequently used in curries to add a sour, zesty flavour, and Jamie has already altered the online recipe for his famous quick chicken laksa.

Derived from the Southeast Asian citrus hystrix plant, kaffir lime leaves are a popular ingredient in everything from Indonesian traditional medicine to Thai coconut curry.
