The Fran Lebowitz Reader (a collection of essays written in the 1970s and 1980s), published for the first time in the UK. This follows the success, during lockdown, of the Netflix documentary Pretend It’s a City.
The sometime writer and raconteuse Lebowitz filmed the series with her friend of 40-plus years, Martin Scorsese, and has said she profited from people not being allowed out.
But the hilarious documentary shines a light on the 70-year-old New Yorker’s wit, wisdom and singular style, and would’ve triumphed with or without a global pandemic.Personally, I think Fran & Marty missed a trick.
