Instagram users looking for some extra privacy have been huge fans of the 'Close Friends' feature ever since it was introduced in 2018—but now they're being warned that it's not as private as first thought. The 'Close Friends' story gives you the option to share story posts with a select group of people and limit it from the rest of your followers.

While many people use this to share pictures of parties or hijinks with their friends, others use it to share more raw, 'intimate' content and control who gets to see it.However, despite the fact not all your followers will be able to see Close Friends posts, Instagram can—and will enforce the rules on nudity it applies elsewhere.

Stephanie Otway, a spokesperson for Meta (which owns Instagram), reportedly told Mashable that the app uses "both proactive technology and reports from the community to find and remove content that contains nudity."She added that the app managed to find and removed 94.3 of content featuring nudity "before it was reported to us", meaning those using the Close Friends list couple fall foul of the app even though they're not sharing their content publicly.

This has a knock-on effect on, for instance, OnlyFans models who often sell access to their Close Friends story as part of a monthly subscription.
