Refurbishment work on the new Santiago Bernabeu, which aims to take the famous old stadium into the 21st century, has accelerated significantly over the summer months.
Having been home to 13-time European champions Real Madrid since 1947, there was a natural reluctance from the club's fans and board to move away from their impressive ancestral home.
