Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.

He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.

Charles and Diana's marriage began to fall apart, Prince Philip, who died almost one year ago, pledged to "do his utmost" to help.

Despite what biographies claim, Prince Philip remained on good terms with his daughter-in-law after she split from his son Prince Charles, according to letters written by the Duke himself.

A previous biography of the Duke claimed the Princess of Wales warned her sons to "never shout at anyone the way Prince Philip does".It also alleged that Princess Diana told friends she disliked the Duke.

The Duke of Edinburgh also allegedly regarded her as a "loose cannon" following her infamous 1995 BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir.But heavily censored letters between the two of them actually suggest they were on good terms when she split with Charles.
