Sir David Amess, who died today, was a long-serving Conservative MP who in his long career represented the constituencies of Basildon and Southend West.One of the longest standing parliamentarians in the UK, he served as Basildon's representative from 1983 to 1997, when he became MP for Southend West.
He was killed today in a knife attack in his constituency surgery before a man was earlier arrested.The father of five is survived by Julia Arnold, who worked for him part-time as a caseworker.
