The infamous American serial killer murdered 17 men and boys between 1978 and 1991, when he was arrested and later sentenced to life in prison.
But fewer people know about Dahmer’s complicated history, including his military service, crimes against fellow soldier and honourable discharge from the US army.
Dahmer was said to have had a difficult childhood, feeling neglected by his parents and turning to alcohol to cope with their divorce in the late 1970s.
By that time he was a teenager and was already interested in morbid hobbies like collecting animal bones, but it was alcohol that played a huge role in his first murder.
