The Sun: “There’s a real taste for bringing back classic shows right now, given viewers’ thirst for nostalgia.“Anneka is hopeful a deal can be struck as she believes there is still plenty of life in the format and that she can also attract a new, younger audience.“It was a much-loved show with good intentions, so there’s no reason why it can’t continue where it left off.”Channel 5 has had huge success in recent years with its reboot of the beloved BBC veterinary drama All Creatures Great and Small.

The channel has also poached Jeremy Vine quiz show Eggheads from the Beeb, plus it will say a sad goodbye to Neighbours in August. So Challenge Anneka could easily find a new home on the channel.

The show, which ran from 1989-1995 on BBC1, saw the host being handed tasks with a deadline of two to three days. This was pre-internet and Anneka would have to persuade and charm local companies and people to help her out for free. With her iconic jumpsuits, ready smile and trademark blue truck and VW beach buggy — with her sound man and camera team perched on the back — Anneka was hard to miss.People were usually only too happy to help, but she still always faced a race against time.

Anneka, now 63, rose to fame in the 1980s on another popular game show, Channel 4's Treasure Hunt. In 2019 she took part in Strictly Come Dancing, partnered with Kevin Clifton.
