It didn’t catch on.Since then I’ve dabbled in countless sportswear and streetwear trends, attempted to master jeans-and-a-nice-top, even dipped a cautious toe into ‘normcore’, but nothing stuck.

I am missing the genetic code required to pull off a messy topknot. Even during recent years, while the gradual casualisation of fashion happened around me – trainers becoming de rigueur on the front row, the advent of athleisure, the promotion of puffer jackets from hiking kit to cool urban must-have – I clung stubbornly to my personal aesthetic.
