So what is top of the hit list for home enhancers this year?Knocking down walls to create open, light-filled spaces has been all the rage in home design for the past two decades, but post-pandemic it seems we’re starting to realise that a little separation between rooms, to allow space for different activities, might be a good idea after all.

The online trades marketplace Rated People (ratedpeople.com) recently released its 2022 trend report, which revealed that 11 per cent of those planning to work on their homes intend to adapt a room or living space to make it more multifunctional, and just over 6 per cent want to build a wall to create completely separate rooms.Interior designer Shalini Misra has seen a spike in demand recently from clients for “broken-plan” or “zoned” rooms that allow a flexible distinction between spaces, rather than a fully open-plan design.“These types of interiors are becoming more and more important as we use our homes for our work life as well as home and family life,” she says.
