Grieving dog owner urges others not to leave room when your pet is being put down

Saying goodbye to a pet is heartbreaking, even when they reach a respectable age. Accepting that the fluffy friend who was always by your side will no longer be there can be painful, as owners always think they will have more time together.

For many people, pets evolve from a position of companion, to a fully fledged family member.Some people who are forced to put their beloved animal to sleep may find it to difficult to watch them take their final breaths.

But one man is urging owners not to leave their pets, after watching his nine-year-old dog close her eyes for the last time - as she was put down in the vet's office.As reported by the Mirror, the 19-year-old explained how his family welcomed a chocolate labrador into their home in 2013 after finding her searching for shelter in their back garden.

The stray dog, who came to be known as Harley, was pregnant at the time - and didn't have anywhere to go or a steady source of food.Sharing his story on Reddit, the man said: "She was the first dog I ever really had."
