Daniel Hankin, who has autism and significant learning disabilities, was able to get out of the special school in June via a gap in the fence surrounding the establishment after internal gates were left open.
Staff employed at the school, which caters to children with multiple learning disabilities, say that no child has ever managed to leave unaccompanied before - but Daniel's family state that they have been left "terrified" by the incident.
An internal probe, being carried out by the school, found that Daniel, who cannot speak and could not have informed anyone of where he had come from, was absent from class for approximately 25.
