Gary Neville quipped that Steven Gerrard "wasn't loyal" to Liverpool due to his failed move to Chelsea during a discussion with Jamie Carragher over tapping up team-mates on international duty, but failed to have the same success with his own attempts to convince him to sign for Manchester United.Gerrard spent the majority of his 18-year playing career at Anfield, but it's well known he came close to joining Chelsea back in 2005 when the Blues were at the peak of their powers under Jose Mourinho. The move fell apart at the 11th hour - and Gerrard remained at Liverpool until he eventually left the club in 2015 to finish his career in MLS with LA Galaxy. However, that wasn't the only time Gerrard was offered the opportunity to leave Anfield for a Premier League side.

Neville has now admitted that he tried to convince the Liverpool captain to join him at Old Trafford - in a similar way to how he'd attempted to talk poach both Wayne Rooney and Alan Shearer for Sir Alex Ferguson's side. "I think it would be something casual," Neville told Sky Sports when discussing the subject. "It wouldn't be like, you know, 'go and poach him' or anything like that."But have a chat with him, see what his plans are.

See where he likes to eat, that type of thing. It's that type of conversation."I think there were two or three times it happened with England with me, where I spoke to Alan Shearer during Euro 96, I had a conversation with him.
