Gary Lineker has revealed he let his prized football memorabilia gather dust in a bank vault for almost 30 years. Lineker won more than his fair share of awards during his playing days, including two Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year awards, a PFA Players' Player of the Year trophy and the 1986 World Cup Golden Boot.He also claimed five goalscorer awards, a runner-up spot in the Ballon d'Or, plus plenty of other pieces of silverware with the likes of Tottenham, Barcelona and Everton.
But when he moved to Japan with Nagoya Grampus Eight in 1992, he couldn't take it all with him. So he bunged all of his accolades in a bank vault and they didn't see the light of day until almost 30 years later.
Lineker revealed the story behind his memorabilia during a chat with Micah Richards and Alan Shearer on the Match of the Day Top 10 Podcast.Discussing the best PFA award winner ever, Lineker got out his Players' Player of the Year trophy from the 1985-96 season and placed it on the table.
