Gareth Southgate has backed Declan Rice to become the next England captain.Rice has become one of the first names on Southgate's team-sheet after establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in Europe.
The West Ham ace, 23, was pivotal in helping the Three Lions reach last summer's Euro 2020 final and will have a huge role to play in Southgate's bid to win the World Cup this winter.Rice received death threats when he chose England over the Republic of Ireland back in February 2019.
But he has never looked back since making his first Three Lions start against Montenegro a month later.He has gone on to become Hammers skipper and has led them to the quarter-finals of the Europa League this season.
Rice made a significant impact after going on as a second half substitute to help England come from behind and beat Switzerland 2-1 at Wembley on Saturday night.And Southgate believes Rice's growing maturity and experience mark him down to lead the Three Lions in the not too distant future.
