Steve Harvey came close to having yet another gaffe at the Miss Universe pageant on Sunday. The U.S.TV host was on hand in the Israeli Red Sea resort town of Eilat where the new Miss Universe was crowned Sunday night after narrowing the field of roughly 80 contestants from around the world to just one winner.

Harnaaz Sandhu, 21, was crowned Miss Universe during the pageant on Dec. 12. The 2020 titleholder from Mexico, Andrea Meza, was on-hand to crown her successor at the event, which was hosted by Steve Harvey. The first runner-up was Nadia Ferreira, from Paraguay, with South Africa’s Lalela Mswane being named third runner-up. However, in the end, it was Harnaaz who accepted the crown, looking stunning in a sparkling silver dress as she did so.

The winner of the 2021 Miss Universe competition has been announced!

Miss Universe!Miss India Harnaaz Sandhu earned the coveted crown on Sunday, and was brought to tears by the exciting victory. She takes on the title held by the outgoing Miss Universe, Andrea Meza.Meza only held the title since May, after the 2020 Miss Universe was postponed significantly due to the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent shutdowns.Sandhu beat out 79 other participating contestants from qualifying nations across the globe to earn the title and the crown.

2021 Miss Universe kicked off this past December 10th. The 70th edition of the popular show will be hosted in Israel at the Universe Arena, with an audience of about 5,000 people.
