Four in ten locked-down students found to have Covid in mass Manchester testing pilot

the city’s public health department delivered hundreds of tests to students self isolating in the blocks. Of the 640 tests successfully completed and returned, 272 were positive - or 42.5pc.The last time an equivalent rate was made publicly available for the wider city, in late September, it showed just under 15pc of tests were coming positive among the population as a whole, itself a high figure. But the rate among students demonstrates just how prevalent Covid-19 is within student accommodation. It is understood most of the positive results in the pilot were asymptomatic.Manchester council’s director of public health, David Regan, said all the students involved in the pilot have been informed of the results and had the implications.
