El-Waylly gained attention while with the Bon Appetit Test Kitchen YouTube channel when amid allegations of racism and unequal pay she spoke out about the food publication’s treatment of people of color.
El-Waylly eventually left Bon Appetit as a test kitchen star, but not before sparking a movement for more diverse representation in culinary media.
