Residents were evacuated from flats inside a former mill in Ashton-under-Lyne in the early hours after a fire broke out. The blaze broke out in a flat on the fourth floor of the Good Hope Mill on Bentinck Street at around 3am this morning (Tuesday).
Five fire engines rushed to the scene. A 'partial evacuation' of the building was carried out by police and firefighters before the blaze was extinguished.

A flat on the fourth floor appeared to have charred windows that had been left wide open. A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said:"Shortly before 3am on Tuesday 28 March, firefighters were called out to a fire in a four-storey building on Bentinck Street, Ashton-under-Lyne. "Five fire engines from Ashton-under-Lyne, Hyde, Stalybridge and Hollins along with the hydraulic platform from Oldham attended the scene where a fire had in a flat on the fourth floor. "Firefighters used one hose reel, two jets, four breathing apparatus, breaking in gear, lighting, a gas detector and a hydraulic platform to extinguish the fire.
