Flamingo Land 'tourist resort' in Loch Lomond facing opposition over £40m plans

Loch Lomond's £40 million Flamingo Land "tourist resort" plans are facing renewed opposition over concerns about their scale and impact.

The Yorkshire-based firm has re-submitted a planning application to build the destination, which will include more than 200 rooms and a monorail, after making "fundamental changes" to its original plans.Glasgow Live reports that the organisation was forced to withdraw their original application more than two years ago following a similar campaign led by the Green party.

That proposal saw 50,000 objections lodged with the Loch Lomond National Trossachs Park, whose officers recommended the application not be granted.

The new plans include restaurants, cafes and retail areas as well as a 60-bed hotel, 127 self-catering lodges, a leisure pool and water park facility and a monorail.On their website the Greens are asking residents to sign a petition to stop the development of apartments, lodges and a budget hotel once again.It states: “Their new application has only just been submitted and there is a huge amount of information for local residents and our campaign team to digest."What's already clear is that their plans are once again far too big, inappropriate for the location and will involve handing over a special piece of publicly owned land for the sake of private profit.”The party also say they will provide support for anyone wishing to comment on the application ahead of the National Park's planning committee making its decision.Changes to the earlier rejected proposals include a revised vision of the site adjacent to the pierhead, separate to the public slipway managed by the National Park, and the complete removal of any development in the ancient woodland of Drumkinnon Wood.The
