Irish fans of Normal People were in for a treat on Tuesday night when the mini-series kicked off on RTÉ. The 12 part show based on Sally Rooney’s bestselling novel will air on the Irish broadcaster over the coming weeks.

Following the lives of two Sligo teens, Connell and Marianne, the show deals with relationships, school, college and grief in a way we’ve never seen on the TV.

From their final months in secondary school where Connell is the popular GAA head and Marianne is the stubborn outside to their role reversal when they head to Trinity college, the series isn’t afraid to tackle hard topics.

Although the full series can be binge-watched on the BBC player, the show will air two episodes for the next six weeks on RTÉ One.
