F1 icon Lewis Hamilton reveals he hates driving on the roads despite racing at 200mph

Lewis Hamilton would be at ease driving on public roads. However, it turns out Hamilton is a particularly nervous driver between races and tries to avoid public roads as much as possible.

The seven-time world champion made the surprise revelation in his wide-ranging interview with Vanity Fair, part of which saw writer Chris Heath travel as Hamilton's passenger.

Heath first revealed Hamilton’s choice of vehicle, a Mercedes electric Smart car. It then emerged that Hamilton was not only a very careful driver but a nervous one as well. READ MORE: Starbucks billionaire and Star Wars director helped convince Lewis Hamilton to stay in F1 “I just think that I find it stressful,” said Hamilton “I try not to do things that don’t add to my life.” He then added: “Look, we’re on these roads, anything can happen.”Hamilton also revealed another of his fears, spiders, which he takes particular care to avoid in Australia to such an extent he quests to stay near the top floor of hotels and checks the bathrooms for creepy crawlies on arrival.“It’s pathetic, but I do.” The reason? “Oh God, spiders,” he said of the fear which stems from being made to watch the film Arachnophobia by his sister when he was younger.
