Charles Leclerc’s F1 title suffered a devastating blow as he crashed out of the lead during the French Grand Prix. The Ferrari star, who took pole position on Saturday, kept championship leader Max Verstappen at bay early in the race and looked on course to make it back-to-back wins.

However, Leclerc slid off the track and into the barriers at around 100mph, gifting the lead to Verstappen, who went on to win the race, with Mercedes duo Lewis Hamilton and George Russell taking the other two steps on the podium. The Monegasque driver escaped unharmed but the same could not be said for his title hopes, which have been hindered throughout the season so far by poor reliability, dodgy strategy calls and driver error.

Straight after the crash, Leclerc complained over the radio about his throttle. Then, breathing heavily, he screamed “noooooo!” READ MORE: Charles Leclerc takes full responsibility for French GP crash in brutally honest interview Fans on social media felt Leclerc’s pain, with some suggesting his scream sounded like something out of a horror movie.“I screamed the same thing,” posted one fan on Twitter while another added: “That’s the most painful radio message in F1 history.”“I actually feel so bad for him,” said a third.
