Formula 1 going back to 1950.The team, known as Alfa Romeo Team Orlen, is the product of two countries - its namesake is a luxury Italian brand, but the team itself is based in Switzerland.At the time of writing, Alfa Romeo sits sixth in the constructors’ championship, a major improvement on the team’s outing in 2021 where they finished ninth, just one position ahead of last-placed Haas.This weekend’s race in Italy will put the team in front of home fans, with the Italian brand well-liked in the country.While Monza may be the home of Italian F1, the Imola track is itself a classic revived by the new look Covid-friendly F1 season 2020.Imola, once referred to as the San Marino Grand Prix, has something of a strange relationship with the sport following the fateful weekend in 1994 when Brazilian Ayrton Senna was killed on track just a day after Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger also lost his life there.Following the departure of former world champion Kimi Raikkonen, who scored 10 of the team’s 13 points in 2021, the constructor has filled both of its seats with new drivers.Finnish former Mercedes driver and 10-time Grand Prix winner Valtteri Bottas is joined by Chinese newcomer Zhou Guanyu.The duo have so far secured 13 points, matching Alfa Romeo's total for the 2021 season after just three races.Bottas has operated at the top end of the sport for the previous five years, finishing third in the drivers’ championship in 2021.Alfa Romeo used to be Sauber, which joined F1 in 1993.

It was started by Peter Sauber, with the team having enjoyed success in the World Sportscar Championship.The team undertook the name of Alfa Romeo again in 2019 in a historic reconnection with the legacy brand.The engine in the 2022 Alfa Romero.
