The Argentine had been in charge of Atlanta United since December 2020 and has overseen just 17 games, but was victorious in only four for a 23% win rate while manager.

He was initially brought in on a two-year contract, replacing former Crystal Palace and Netherlands manager Frank De Boer. After 13 games in the MLS Eastern Division this season, the team have accrued just 13 points and the 1-0 home defeat to New England Revolution was the final straw for the owners.
