Several candidates had been considered including Sevilla boss Julen Lopetegui and Spain's Luis Enrique but it appears to be a straight shootout between Ten Hag of Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain coach Mauricio Pochettino.However, according to The Athletic, Ten Hag has emerged as the preferred manager to take on the role at Old Trafford and negotiations are underway to find an agreement that would see him move to Manchester.
But it has not proved a smooth road just yet as they await the 52-year-old's decision.The first port of call is whether the ex-Bayern Munich II boss is willing to accept United's offer, with a new contract also on the table at Ajax.
But Ten Hag wants a range of assurances - his role, responsibilities and authority - clearly laid out in terms before deciding on whether to take the job. Should United give Erik ten Hag the job?
