Manchester United have confirmed the worst kept secret in football by appointing Ajax boss Erik ten Hag as their new manager on an initial three-year contract - two days after their capitulation against Liverpool.
The former central defender has been drafted in after taking part in an extended interview process with club officials, as he looks to guide Ajax to a third title from the last three completed Eredivisie seasons.The 52-year-old managed Go Ahead Eagles, Bayern Munich II and Utrecht before his move to Amsterdam, and will be tasked with guiding United back to challenging for major silverware.United's Director of Football, John Murtough, said: "During the past four years at Ajax, Erik has proved himself to be one of the most exciting and successful coaches in Europe, renowned for his team’s attractive, attacking football and commitment to youth."In our conversations with Erik leading up to this appointment, we were deeply impressed with his long-term vision for returning Manchester United to the level we want to be competing at, and his drive and determination to achieve that.
