SOAPS have been pulled from telly schedules tonight, following the death of the Queen. ITV will not air Coronation Street and Emmerdale this evening (Friday, September 9).

The long-running dramas will be postponed in favour of a continuous ITV News Special all day, beginning at 9am, despite the broadcaster not being obliged to interrupt regular scheduling.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street were due on screens tonight at 7.30pm and 8pm respectively. A number of other regularly-scheduled ITV programs in the likes of This Morning and Loose Women have also been cancelled.

This will be followed by Queen Elizabeth II - The Longest Reign at 8.30pm, hosted by Jonathan Dimbleby which will chart the monarch's historic seventy-year long reign from its unlikely beginnings to the present day.
