Her Majesty was informed of the death of her beloved father during an official royal tour of Kenya in 1952, where she was accompanied by Prince Philip.

While the duo became friends when the monarch was still a young princess, they gradually built on their connection over the years.

Queen wrote what would be the last letter to her father as she wrote about her African adventures just hours before his death in 1952. Her Majesty, who was still Princess Elizabeth at the time, had just returned from a safari in Kenya and immediately sat at her desk to tell King George VI about all the animals she had seen.
