The Guardian reports. More than a dozen pyramids, ancient monasteries and animal burial sites points towards Saqqara being a huge necropolis of the ancient Egyptian capital and now Unesco world heritage site, Memphis.The biggest Ancient Egyptian find of 2020 was the 100 intact sarcophagi and statues of ancient deities uncovered in November.Experts reported the coffins belonged to top officials buried 2,500 years ago during the Late period and the Ptolemaic period of ancient Egypt.Inspired by the stunning artefacts, the antiquities and tourism minister, Khaled al-Anani, said: “Saqqara has yet to reveal all of its contents”.Hawass hopes more information about Saqqara in the New Kingdom can be learned from the latest discovery near the pyramid.
